1991 mercury cougar, 160,000 Miles.
My car starts, I can physically move the shifter to drive, and the engine revs when I hit the gas, but the car does not move at all. All it does is roll down my sloped driveway when I release the brake. I've checked the transmission fluid and it has plenty.
The transmission has been slipping lately. When it is supposed to shift into overdrive, it will suddenly downshift into a lower gear. The revs shoot way up, and the only way to get the car going again is to shift out of overdrive and into drive.
My car has been sitting in my driveway, without a battery, for four months now. Could the lack of a battery for so long have contributed to the problem?
