1982 Mercedes Benz 300sd 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 75,000 miles
We had a new battery installed in our Mercedes by our mechanic 2 months ago and the battery has gone dead now 3 times in the last week and had to be started each time by the AAA. We drove the car at higher speeds for awhile as suggested (50-55mph) the day it was jump started as our mechanic said the car needed to be driven more and not just short trips around town. He said that short trips actually run the battery down and suggested we buy a battery charger. He said the battery checked out fine and the alternator also checked out fine. My question is why would this happen with a new battery? Should a brand new battery just go dead like this after a couple months if the car isn't driven enough? Should we need to get a battery charger with a battery that is this new? We drive the car around town an average of once every other day. We've never had this experience before and thank you for your advice.
