2001 Mazda Tribute 130000 miles

My car wouldn't start so we had our neighbor jump it for us. We then took it to the repair shop where they replaced the battery. For the rest of the day the car started fine, but when I went out the next day it wouldn't start again.

When I put the key in the ignition and try to start it, absolutely nothing happens. There are no sounds or clicking noises and no lights come on. Any idea what is happening and why the repair shop didn't actually fix it the first time.

Help would really be appreciated since I know absolutely nothing about cars.

Could be the alternator not putting out or there's a short circuit draining out the battery overnite
