Engine Performance problem
1988 Mazda b2200 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 109000 miles
This my dilemma, I have a 1988 Mazda B2200 and back on October of last year I started getting low gas mileage on a full tank of gas. I usually would avg. Around 273-282 mi on a full tank of gas give or take. I went the amount previously mentioned to 185-200mi/gal. I called a mechanic that I deal with and he told me to check the plugs. The plugs were brunt out as he predicted and I change them as suggested per my mechanic. But I would notice everytime after I would fill-up, when I reach about 29-35 mi on my mileage counter the needle would fluctuate between full and half and so forth until it arrives back at empty. I noticed that my miles/gal have reduced dramatically. Also, while that problem is going on one of my cylinders went out and brings my horse power down to only 3 cylinders. So, it was determined that this was the problem, so I opted to order an remaufactored engine. I now have the engine in the truck and the engine is working as it should, but I'm getting the say fluctuation and the same gas mileage. I went and sought out another mechanics opinion on this ordeal and he determine from driving the vehicle and inspecting of aspects that something is holding the truck back and it not getting it full power. He said that the engine is running great and it might be and exhaust problem. I took it to a muffler shop and it was determine that on of my catylitic converters was stopped up and I needed a tail-pipe and muffler. They told me that this might not solve all my problems, but I got the work done anyhow. I got over 3,600 wrapped up in the vehicle trying to solve the initial problem that I have before any other problem occurred. I at my wits end with spending money. Do anyone have any answers that can help me pin point the problem, because I'm tried of spending money and not getting the problem solved.
