Engine Performance problem
1996 Mazda 626 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 160000 miles
My car is currently in the shop getting a new engine (engines need oil to operate correctly : )) Prior to the breakdown, my check engine light was on and I frequently stalled when coming to a stop without the AC on. There was also rough idle and sputtering during acceleration at all speeds. I used an ODPII tool to try to pull the codes but the cycle failed every time. I had discovered that the molded piece that connects the air intake to the manifold was very loose and almost disconnected, and when reconnected and tightened the stalling and rough idle stopped (I'm not sure about the sputtering because the engine went dry the next day before I could really get it out and drive). I have 3 questions: 1. Assuming my sensors were OK, does it sound like I solved my problem with tightening that molded piece? 2. Are the sensors components of the engine, and if so, should my problem be resolved with the new engine? 3. What do you recommend that my mechanic do while he is replacing the engine, i.E. Replacing other components, performing other maintenance?
