2001 Mazda 323 87,000 miles
My car has what I think are 2 problems that 3 mechanics have not been able to figure out. (1) When I'm idling in traffic, the needle goes down to zero and the car shuts off. Although this doesn't happen everytime I idle. There's no jerking or sputtering. It would be a smooth shut-off. It would start up again right away, but yesterday it wouldn't and I had to wait a few minutes before trying again. I got it safely home and the next morning it started up like normal. This leads to the second problem. When trying to start up the car, the engine turns like it wants to start, but doesnt actually get to that point. I have to try many times and it usually does start up inthe end, after a struggle. Again, this problem is internittent and doesn't happen every time. The first mechanic said it was my fuel injectors and throttle body andhe serviced those with no results. The second said it was beyond him. The 3rd tried changing the MAF sensor. Nothing changed. Then the crankshaft sensor. He's on the look out for a brain box now. Any help would be very much appreciated!
