I was backing out of a parking spot and I accidentally pressed the accelerator which then caused me to quickly press the brakes. I put the car in drive and the car rattled a little after the check engine light came on and the display did not show it was in drive. It felt like the car was still in first gear until I parked the car and restarted it a few hundred yards from the parking spot. The display showed I was in drive. I felt a loss of power and the transmission was shifting fine, but the engine light is still on.

There is a diagnostic fault code in memory. If this was an intermittent problem, restarting the engine would restore normal operation but if the problem that was detected is relatively serious, the check engine light will still turn on any time the engine is running. That is the second most serious type of code, but that does not necessarily mean the problem was serious. The check engine light turns on when the fault code relates to something that could adversely affect emissions. When those problems act up, the light will be on.

When stopped at an intersection or sometimes upon acceleration, when I apply the gas peddal, I feel the engine lurch forward. Not a good feeling. What could it be? My Hyndai dealer wants to run an electrical scan to diagnose the problem, but I would like to have the heads up on the issue.

I've got my foot on the brake at the intersection and the gear shift is engaged in Drive the entire time.
Yes, the care is idling, normally.

I had the oil changed less than 3,000 miles ago at Fletchers and they changed the air filter too. Awhile after that I noticed this jerking/lurching, like the SUV wants to take off on its own.

Last week I had Hyundai dealer perform the 45,000 mile check up on the Santa Fe hoping that with topping off all the fluids and checking hoses and transmission they might find something, but no such luck.
What do you think?

When there is any vacumn leakages, surging would occur and that would cause the symptoms described.

I would suggest checking for dislodged vacumn hoses.

Does problem occur with AC turned on all the time? If yes, it could be the AC compressor engaging or disengaging and that could be caused by slow response from the IAC. Cleaning it should improve on the situation.

Thanks so very much for your response. I've been busy working with the Hyundai dealer, and a private mechanic, trying to come up a resolution to this problem. Well, Problem solved!

No Thanks, to the dealer. The privately owned mechanic took my car out for a test drive and attached a diagnostic box to the electrical panel and decided that it was missing, not lurching. So, he changed the spark plugs.4 to be exact. $74.00 later, I was a happy customer. All this in an hour!

I love the fact that I can speak to the mechanic directly without the middle man at the dealership. This saves time, and money. Thanks to you, and to this great website for giving me the confidence to seek another opinion other than the Hyundai dealership.

Can you feel if the transmission is slipping in lower gears? That is do you feel that it is revving hard and not driving as you would expect?

Better get the transmission looked at, it may be the problem, if the transmission oil is dirty and smells burnt it will be slipping start here.

Also when you start it the rev pointer goes below the idle level and the pointer goes up and down.
It also gives backfire when reaching 120kmh but now it backfires even at 40kmh

I feel that you better start looking at the tune and check that the idle control motor is working, start with the tune side first and see how that improves things.

Hello Dear 2capros
My problem in my car is when I go drivig uphill it loses power, and then I I used the triptronic option but I saw that the car was stuck in third gear, several days ago I saw that the engine revolutions are greatly increased for the gear change, the transmission fluid is well and the level is well too. Any advice you can give me?

You need to do the fuel filter as part of the tune, a badly blocked fuel filter can cause some of your problems.

I hace scaned my car I gave a Cod P0732 T/A 2nd gear ratio, the mechanic said it is a problem with a second gear, may be a transmission sensor not work or speed Sender not good, or the electovalvle inside of transmission broke, can you tell me? What do you thing?
