I have a 2001 Kia sportage. It won't start and the hold button on the dash flashes. When you hit the hold button on the shifter it will not come off. Is there a way you can reset this without spending a arm an a leg at a dealership? Could this problem cause the car not to start? The starter tries to crank.

Hi bearbackcowboy,

When the HOLD light is flashing, something is wrong and preventing the engine from starting. It could be anything so you need a scan to find out what is wrong.

How much it is going to cost will depend on what is wrong.

Try disconnecting the battery negative terminal for a few mins and see if you can get it started after reconnecting.

I have tried pulling the battery cable and that hasn't worked. I am going to have it scanned. Thank you for your help.
