2004 Kia Carnival 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 161000 kilometres
we bought our Kia 2 months ago and it has been making a knocking noise on startup on and off since then. The noise only lasts 4-5 seconds on idol and disappears if I rev the engine. Sometimes the car is cold and sometimes only driven an hour earlier. Sometimes the noise is every start up across the day and othertimes not heard for a whole week. A mechanic did hear it and suspected engine bearings but the second mechanic ( second opinion for warranty) didn't hear the noise and said an oil service would fix problem. We had the service done and no noise for a week or so but now it's back again, although not as loud or for as long as before. Is this an engine bearing problem or something less serious? The first mechanic said the only way to tell would be to have the engine stripped at a mere cost of $900! We are unsure whether to proceed
have the same problem?
