Hello,

It sounds like the cluster must be replaced here is a video of the job being done on a similar car the process is the same.

Okay, so I have changed the instrument panel twice and changed the sensors on the transmission as well as the rear speed/ABS sensor. Everything works fine in the cooler months but when it starts to get hot outside the speedometer stops working unless I am pressing the break pedal. Sometimes that fixes it and sometimes it just comes in and out while I am driving. Occasionally If I hit a bump It will work as well. I have even changed the connector on the rear sensor.I have run out of ideals on how to fix this. Anyone know what this could be?

Sounds like a ground problem if you hit a bump and it works check ground battery to body and engine to battery and ground on engine left front. They may be loose or corroded. Make sure two switches in picture are connected as it grounds through them as well.

One of the wires is corroded badly thinking it is for the brake thing. So that is probably it. I will have to get it fixed and will update after if it works or not.

You're just going to have to take one of those items and troubleshoot the circuit and you will find out in the process if there is a common failure.

Computer problem
2004 Jeep Liberty Automatic 42,135 miles

yesterday driving from North Carolina to Florida my speedometer quit working then the engine light came on and it started running rough. Pulled of the interstate to check oil and sort of figured I got bad gas (stalled out leaving the exit ramp but promptly restarted) I put in a container of techtron gas treatment and re-filled the tank checked the oil etc let sit about 10 min and restarted. No more problem the rest of the way home which was about 200 miles out of the 700 mile trip this am went out engine light is out odometer and spedometer both working fine only the overhead gas mileage is off still says 19 mile to empty even after I reilled the tank again this evening any ideas? Speed sensor? Does it affect the brakes slightly when it happens? Thanks Tammy

Tammy:

It is hard to say what has caused that problem. However, if the check engine light was on, there is a code set in the computer. If you take it to a nationally recognized parts store, they will scan the computer, and most will do it for free. From that, they will extract a code from the computer identifying where the problem is coming from. So that is what I recommend. Again, most do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket.

Let me know what you find.
Joe
