Electrical problem
1983 Jeep CJ7 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 120K miles

Recently after driving my 1983 Jeep CJ7 for a while the Ignition Coil gets very hot and will quit working. The motor will run rough and bog down then die. It will not start again until the coil has cooled down. If I put a cold replacement coil in it will fire right up. What could be causing the coil to overheat? The engine temp gauge reads normal temp when this happens.

I have checked the + and - wires to the coil and they are hooked up correctly.

Thank You in advance for your help,

Hey CJ Medevac need some help with with my 1978 CJ7. Posted on another thread but will post here too in hopes of reaching you. No spark. It was running fine until a few days ago. I've spent two days doing diagnostics but still hitting a brick wall. Can fill you in on the details if I can reach you. Thanks!
