The car developed a water leak and rattle. I have been told I need to replace the water pump. While looking in the Haynes manual, online and at the sticker in the engine bay, I have realised that the drive belt routing on the engine is different from all of the diagrams. The result of which causes the water pump to turn in the opposite direction. Is there any logical reason for this or was the last belt just installed incorrectly? The car ran fine, no over heating etc, before the water leak.

Which engine do you have?

If all the diagrams I checked through, the water pump turns opposite to the crankshaft direction of turning.

It's a 4lt. With a LPG conversion.
I have just reviewed the belt routing and the route will in fact turn the water pump in the right direction. I'm still a little confused however as to why the belt was not installed as per the diagram.
Thanks for your help.

You have to loosen the idler nut and then adjusting bolt
that will loosen the belt allowing you to remove it and replace
