Transmission problem
1998 Jaguar XJ8 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I bought a 1998 XJ8L that is in " limp mode / 5th gear". The car has 170K miles and I was told by the sellers that there were no apparent problems prior to the fault light indication after a family outing to a nearby restaraunt. I note that this same question was asked before and I would also like to know:

" I get a transmission failure message and the car is in limp home mode. What is wrong and can it be repaired outside of the Jaguar shop?&Quot;

BTW, I have driven the car, starting slowly from the 5th gear configuration and the cars runs well otherwise (to include driving in reverse).

Thanks for the help.

Most good transmission shops will be able to diagnose and repair the fault !
