Engine Mechanical problem
2003 Infiniti FX V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic 55300 miles
Location: California; I do not drive FX often (once a week) due to fuel economy. When car is started after not being driven for a week, it smokes a lot (smell oil burning). Dealer said its due to the oil not circulating to the cams right away. They said to just let it idle. After closer inspection, the oil level is excessively low (by 4qts or more). Dealer has me on an "oil consumption test" - every 1k miles I bring ivehicle in for an level test. After 1k, there is oil loss, but not enough to warrant an issue. If I drive 2k miles or more without stopping at dealer for check, the oil loss is anywhere from 2qts low to 4qts (enough to cause damage). Infiniti will not honor my warranty unless it fails 4 oil consumption tests in a row - to my knowledge, there is no oil leaks (but there's a protective plate underneath which would catch most oil).
I've had this issue since 44k miles.
have the same problem?
