Car battery will not keep power, but interior lights come on, dashboard lights will not come on and car will not crank over. Can I have hooked the ignition switch up wrong?

Maybe, if you forced the connector. Turn everything off and remove the negative battery cable. Are you seeing a spark? If so, that means there's either a short or something is not turning off. Find the starter solenoid and hook up a test light to it. Disconnect the coil and have someone turn the key to the start position. The test light should light up.
