Honda Passport check transmission light flash / not charging

Hello, I just purchased a used 1995 honda passport with 133,000 miles on it. It has the 3.2 V6 automatic trans. Driving home I noticed the voltage gauge reading low, but at idle went up to 12V then it would drop to 0 and the check transmission light would flash. If I let off the accelerator it would usually go back up to 12v. Loose belt I thought, but it that was not the problem. Soon after the voltage gauge went to 0v and stayed there, then all dash lights began to flash, radio, fan everything quit including speedometer and tach. I drove another few miles and it felt as though the transmission was slipping so I pulled over to find what I believe to be transmission fluid all over the right side of the engine bay toward the front of the Passoport. I am assuming that the alternator is out, but what would/could cause the transmission fluid? Could the two be linked or is it just a coincidence? Thanks

Just an update to the problem I had. The alternator went out while driving which effected the computer, which evidently effected the transmission. The transmission built up excess pressure and forced Transmission fluid out of the vent tube. The mechanic had to add a quart and a half to the transmission after the alternator was replaced. No leaks could be found and the transmission is fine now. This happened on the interstate at 75 mph a couple of miles after the alternator quit charging.
