I just noticed you have the V6 model Odyssey. These models don't have a fuel filter separate from the fuel pump. The fuel filter is mounted on the fuel pump and is supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. The only reason to replace it would be if the vehicle has dropped fuel pressure and is running poorly.

This guide will help explain with diagrams below to show you on your car.

There is a trapdoor to help you replace it. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

What is happening is we try to start it and it turns over fine but wont start. Then stop turn it off and try again and then it starts normal. So that was my first thought.

This could be caused by few different things. Could be faulty fuel pressure regulator or bad fuel pump, may not even be fuel related at all. You will want to start troubleshooting this issue by checking the fuel pressure.

The car in question is Honda Odyssey EX Van 2001 -
milage 104,000
Would like to know - do I have to go to Honda dealership to have my odyssey 2001's fuel filter replaced. According to my mechanic - he says that I have to get the Fuel Filter replaced and it is under the fuel tank and can be done only at the dealership.

With thanks and best regards

Honda switched to lifetime fuel filters a good bit ago. I wouldn't worry about it.
