I have a 1989 honda civic, 4 cyl. With 55,000 mile. Once the car is warm it does not start. Any ideas on where to start looking?

You have an electrical issue. The heat of the warm vehicle and its components have caused a component's circuit to remain open because of expansion. Now what could cause this. Well, how about when the car is started cold and is running; are there any problems?
Engine turns over though but does not start when warm? If not, it could be a starter issue.
