Transmission problem
1997 Honda Civic 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 210000 miles

shift knob popped off months ago and have been shifting via the mechanism that the shift knob rests on. (The piece that the button uses to depress the rod inside the shifter) tried to put the shift knob back together, had to try and beat on it to get the shift knob back to its proper placement on the shifter. Did not work, gave up on it and tried to drive. The car would not shift out of park at this point. The engine starts right up, ive removed the console at this point and the shifter looks fine, cannot find out why it wont shift. Please help! I use this car for work!

Could be caused by the brake switch, shift lock control solenoid, key interlock switch and solenoid and interlock control module and the car's computer
