The coolant expansion tank is losing water somehow.
It doesn't appear to be leaking - no cracks or splits in the plastic tank evident, no wet patches, drips or stains.
The radiator level remains full, but having filled the expansion tank to the Max level, the water disappears, leaving a small amount in the bottom which still covers the inlet/outlet pipe from the radiator.
The thermostat seems to be working fine, quickly reaches operating temperature and maintains it.
Mystified over where the water is going and why. Any ideas?

Hi sgwhiteley,

There must be a leaking somewhere causing the depletion of coolant from the reserve tank.

Most such leaks are minimal and occurs only when pressure builds up after engine is running.

Most likely area for leaks,
1. Hose joints.
2. Radiator drain plug.
3. Water pump.
4. Heater core.

Look out for coolant stains. A pressure test should be able to tell where the leak is coming from.
