1992 Honda Civic speedo jumps and drops to 0

I have a 1992 civic lx with the 1.5L I was driving to work and all of a sudden the speedo went from the 55mph I was drivng to over 100 and dropped to 0 I noticed that it has thrown off my odomator and trip iv been looking for an answer online but no luck is it the speed sensor the cable or what this is my fist honda and want it to run tip tip for me with only 135k on body and motor. Thanks for lookin and I hope to get a responce

You have an electronic speed sensor.

It is a 3 wire plug, verify you have power (5V) and a ground to that connector with the key on RUNII. Also, with the wheels spinning you should see a signal from the remaining wire. If there is no signal the sensor is bad.

If the signal is good and circuity leading to the cluster is fine, you have a faulty cluster.
