My ac sometimes blows cold and then sometimes not. I can go to work and have cold ac, go to lunch and not cold or vice cersa. Sometimes while warm it kicks in and starts blowing cold.

Wondering if this is common on Honda's or also would like to know if it sounds like an eletrical issue or a part issue like refrig low maybe from a leak?

Hi Jethro1,

when it is not blowing cold, you need to check if the compressor is working.

It could be a faulty control, AC clutch relay or AC clutch itself that is faulty.

Thank you for answering. Yes, I think the relay is the problem.

The day I checked my ac and put a vacumm on system and checked refrig level it was 1.00 of a max of 1.2. No leaks that I could see but it was a little low but I did not think enough to cause the problem.

So while recharging system the compressor did not turn on so I found the relay and tapped on it, as soon as I did the compressor kicked on and blew ice out of dash after a few mins. The relay only cost me about $3.00, the dealer I work at has many car line sister stores so I was able to buy one with my employee discount from a sister store.

Everything is good to go now, I am a hero again to my family member for fixing her car again.

Thanks

Jethro

We went to lunch and air was blowing cold. Got back in car and no ac. Hot air. Fan blows, clutch not turning on compressor. Hope that it is a fuse or something easy. (Praying for that anyway) Please advise if there is an electrical fuse that runs the AC, or what else to look for. I don't think it is a freeon leak. Thank you so much for your help and time.

Hi Chad,

Thank you for the donation.

Under hood fuse box check fuse # 12 (7.5A).
Check the relay terminals for power supply.
Test the AC compressor relay, if bypassing the terminals 1 and 2 clicks the compressor, the relay is bad if power is present.

My a/c blows cold air when I'm driving on the freeway or when I press the gas but blows hot air when I slow down or stop.

If the fan is not cycling properly then incoming air will be warmer at idle.

Also, ensure that your a/c system is free of leaks and has enough R134a in it. (This has to be done by a licensed technician)

The system has been checked and is free of leaks. It seems like when I press the gas pedal, it blows cold air but when I let go of the gas, it blows hot air. The a/c will only blow cold air when the gas pedal is pressed.

My air conditioning will not cool. A service man tapped on the compressor and it started. Traveled about 2 miles and it quit cooling. Sometimes when the weather is cool outside the compressor seems to work. If the temp outside gets warm, compressor never works. I am also smelling air as if it were coming from under the hood. Its not fresh and clean. Could this be a short in the switches on the dash or is my compressor going out? If the compressor is working sometimes could it be electrical?

Hi kalisatj,

Seems the compressor magnetic clutch has too much clearance and is intermittently not cutting in when power I supplied to the coil.

Adjustment can be made on the compressor clutch clearance.
If clearance is within specs, the the clutch would have to be replaced as the coil could be bad.

The air problem could be with the fresh/recirculating air mode. Check if the mde is turned to fresh air.

That could mean the air mix motor or its linkages.

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/192750_ACDash03AccordFig01_1.jpg

Check the air mix control motor or its linkages. When the temp control is changed, the motor should move to open or close the door.

Thanks for posting this. So it actually ends up it was the clutch not kicking on. Is there any special tools that I might need in order to complete this and is there anything that you would reccommend before I get started on it?

Thanks
