Hello.

A P1738 code is the 2nd clutch pressure switch which is located on the transmission. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

My check engine light came on yesterday (1999 Honda Accord EX). I stopped at AutoZone and had a diagnostic done. Two codes came up: P1738 and P0401. Does either one of these require immediate attention? Would it be possible for me to do something on my own or should I get the car to my mechanic?

I am a bit concerned about the 1738 code as I had a new transmission put on the car in February. I have an 80 mile round trip to and from work each day; naturally, I don't like the idea of being caught somewhere in between with a problem.

Thanks.

Karl

Hi Karl,

Thank you for the donation.

P1738 = 2nd clutch pressure switch.

Check for loose/contaminated or dislodged sockets connections.

P0401 = EGR insufficient flow.

Possible cause is a clogged EGR valve and/or exhaust passage for EGR flow. Remove EGR and clear the carbon from the exhaust passage underneath.

Four cylinder two wheel drive automatic 103,000 miles.

Hi,
I got a check engine light on in my car, went to the auto body people and they figured that code P1738 is faulty. I do not know what the problem is. Can any one tell me what this means and what needs to be done and approximately how much it would cost?
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Shanti

Hi Shanti,

DTC P1738 = 2nd clutch Presssure switch.

It is a fault in the transmission system and cost would depend on what is at fault. It could be a loose wire connection, faulty pressure switch or even a faulty PCM.

You should be having problem with gear shifting correctly.
