I believe not much guessing is required.
The problem should be a damaged head gasket resulting in the compression dropping. Pull out the engine oil dipstick and see if the oil is milky. If yes, the cylinder head and/or gaskert is bad.
Remove the radiator cap and top up with water. Without closing the cap, crank engine and if water shoots out, the head gasket is blown.
