High pitch sound near Y pipe

I have a humming/whinning noise coming from my dodge. The noise doesnt start until the vehicle gets warm. Sounds excellant when its cold. It sounds to be coming from under the floorboard towards the back of the engine/bottom. This motor only has 29,000 on it and I cannot figure it out. The belt was taken off and the truck was run without the belt and the noise still persisted. The cats and y pipe were changed and that did not solve the issue. Now being told its the rear main seal. The noise is there whether or not the truck is in gear or in park. I dont belive the sound gets any louder when driven as it is hard to tell. I am so stuck with this problem. This is not my truck but, the exact same sound mine is making.

Have a pro check this it may be loose converter bolts your link didn't work. It could also be the heat shield by converter is loose.

From the video I couldn't hear anything unusual and I would suppose the dealer would say it's normal for that setup. Some vehicles just get a certain noise and you are not able to get rid of them and this may be the case. Unless it gets louder or really annoying you could use some of the aftermarket stuff like linkcoat which is sprayed on floorboards and under truck to deaden sound and heat.

I thought about changing the exhaust to something a little louder to drown it out lol. It is an annoying sound especially when you go through a drive thorough. I had it at the shop and they changed out the cats and the y pipe and it didn't go away. They now tell me that they believe it is being caused by the front rear main seal which makes no sense to me at all as that causing a high pitch whining sound. They claim the seal was dried out. I am lost with this whole situation.

If the seal were dried out you would leak oil andwith that amount o f miealge is shouldn't be anyhow. Besides if you could get some oil between the engine and flywheel you cold spray it and the sound would go away. If you put your hand on the y pipe with a glove does the sound go away? If it did you might be able to get some header tape which is advertised in hot rod books and wrap it and see if that cures it. Can't think of anything else like I said some of these engines get a drone in it and you can't get rid of it. There are no tsb's that I saw for noise or whining so don't know what to tell you.

I pushed on and pulled on the exhaust and it not change the sound. What would be in that area that would have a bearing that could make that humming sound when a bearing would start to go? It only does it when the engine gets hot after a couple minutes. When its cold it sounds excellant. You say to try to spray oil on the flywheel. Could the flywheel be causing this sound? Or possibly the cam shaft?

I meant to spray oil between the flywheel and engine IF the rear seal was makingnoise. I really don't know what to tell you on this. If it doesn't do it cold then it 's something that is expanding causing it.

It is a tough one. Thanks for your help with all this. I will update as things progress. How would I spray the oil between the two? I mean how would I acess it?

Well dealer called and said they replaced seal and that wasnt the problem and that they will not go any further. I told them that it was unacceptable. So, they agreed to have a Chrysler engineer or tech or what ever they are called come to look at it and see if there really is a problem. Have yo ever heard of this?

Yes, I worked at GM north American operations for 32 years and problem thing s like this someone would go out to the field and see if the problem could be resolved. Sometimes we would bring the car back with us and give owner another vehicle to use while we tried to resolve it. It was normally fixed with whatever it took to fix it.
