My '97 Bonneville (70,000 mi) takes 4-6 seconds of cranking to start. If it starts, it may die once. After restarting, it idles fine and cruises smoothly.
A funky exhaust smell (with a dash of gassy smell) has been noticeable since this started a few months ago. Only once (out of ~ 100 starts), I saw white whispy smoke coming from the EGR, with a loud backfire (I am NOT getting a faulty EGR engine code). That hasn't happened since. FYI--I had a tune-up (new plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter. Etc), and complete injector cleaning, and replaced the fuel pump.(A diagnostic showed low f.P. Pressure).
The beast still manifests the same problem. Any ideas? Thanks.
