Engine Performance problem 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 150, 00 miles

Hi im new to the site and was wondering if anybody can tell me what I should do, My wife was driving the car and the car started to sputter and the low oil pressure light came on and it also said to turn engine off. I was told to replace the oil pressure switch, Its right beside the oil filter so I did, I took it for a test ride and seemed fine. My wife was driving today and it did the same thing sputtered and low oil light came on. Please does anybody have any clue on what I should do or have had the same problem? Yes I checked the oil did and it was full, I even took it in for an oil change when it didn't need one for a few month.

I would suspect a faulty oil pump. If pump starts to fail then there will not be enough oil to lubricate internal parts properly. Here are some diagrams (below) on how to do the job.

You will need to pull the front balancer and timing cover to get to the pump.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-a-harmonic-balancer-works

Install the front cover bolts, tightening the center bolt last (1).
Tighten the front cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)

I would check the oil pump pick up as well because if there is a sludge in the engine it will plug the inlet to the oil pump.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

I have the same problem. I have had the car at several shops and finally the dealer. I had the oil changed, which helped for a day. I next had the sensor changed, worked for 3 or so days. I had a master mechanic look at it. He ran he engine for an hour and a half on his manual gauge. Although the cars oil pressure ran low, he said it never went below spec. He told me the engine was going! No knocks, no noise, no nothing. I finally brought it to the dealer who ean complete diagnostic check. They not only found nothing, they couldn't get the problem to even occur while there. They ended up resetting the computer and since last sept. When I picked it up I have not had a problem. Until today. Everything else about the envoy is great! I have read that higher viscosity oil may help or even solve the problem in the summer months. This is the first summer I have the car so maybe its the heat. Then I went ahead and took the oil pan off and sure enough sludge. Now clean I have no more problems.

The 2004 envoy has about 128k. Thanks

I have a 2005 GMC Envoy, 97k miles; low oil pressure light came on last week; oil changed two days ago; low oil pressure - stop engine light came on again today? They told me it is the oil pump pick up screen. Does that sounds right?

Yes the oil pump pick up gets clogged with sludge not allowing the oil pump to do its job.

Is the oil level sufficient? If so then could be a malfunctioning oil sensor or weakening oil pump

If you get low oil pressure it cuts the fuel off. Try cleaning the throttle plate as well with choke cleaner as that may be gummed up. It's the first picture under tune up if you don't know what it is.

The Oil gauge will go down to 0 oil pressure when I am at a stop or idling. The oil pressure go up when I'm accelerating. The engine sounds fine and runs fine. I have listen for any other issues but none. I do need a oil change will this cause that problem.

I would check the oil pressure manually with a gauge or you could try changing the sender to See if thats it not uncommon for them to fail.

My warning light is indicating that my oil pressure is low. I thought it may be due to almost time for an oil change and I went and got the oil changed. The light still comes on. It comes on when I am coming to a stop.

You could just have a bad oil sending unit you need to test your oil pressure. Or try replacing the oil sending unit there pretty cheap to see if that fixes it

I recently had a rebuilt 5.3 l engine put in my GMC Envoy. Bought it from Promar Precision engine Rebuilders, Patterson, NJ. Works great, quiet, no leaks, etc, however, after I drive I to 2 miles the oil pressure gage drops to zero. Motor runs fine, oil ok, quiet, etc. Just no oil pressure per the gage. Put new sensor in, no difference.
Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Russ Lane

Put manual gauge on it to see what actual oil pressure you have I f no reading on that then take it back. However it may be a bad dash or gauge as they are digital and go bad. They can be rebuilt as well.

Measure oil pressure with mechanical gauge, this will tell you actual pressure. If still high then an oil pump or clogged oil galley.
