There is a door flap on the heater box located under the dash.
It is generally it is controlled by a cable. The cable comes off sometimes and the heater core flow cannot be directed to the interior and cold air comes with it.
Also check the fresh air recirculation door. It is cable actuated as well.

I hope this information helps.

Check coolant level first if low have pressure checked for leaks, then check the actuator on the rear heater, it is to the left of the rear seat. There are two and either one or both cold be bad. Make sure to check fuses as well. Hey are #8-16-&23 on fuse panel left side of dash

Make sure the coolant is full. Make sure the engine is running at a normal operating temp. Next, with the engine running, hot, and the heater on, feel both heater core hoses. Both should be hot. If only one is, flush the heater core. If both are hot, chances are there is a problem with the blend door. If the knocking sound is under the dash, the blend door is my first guess. If the noise is coming from the engine, that is a different situation and most likely involves internal engine bearing issues.

Make sure the coolant is full. Check to make sure the engine is operating at a normal operating temp. If it is, start the engine, let it warm up with the heater on high, and feel both heater core hoses. If they are both hot, check the blend door. If only one is hot, flush the heater core.

The relay is fine if the motor is blowing air. Have your mechanic check the heater core is not blocked. Theres no air in the system. No leaks. Pressure test system.

Maybe an actuator under the dash has a problem? The blower motor works ok? Does the engine reach normal operating temp? Are the heater hoses, hot?
