My van started by having a ticking noise and then about 30 miles later stopped going forward. I pulled off to the side of the road and the van would not shift into gear even by me putting in 1st and 2nd gear. Is this a transmission failure or a CV joint failure?

Hi:
I would say that a cv joint breaking would have been much louder. You can look under the van to make sure the axles are still tight, but I doubt that is the problem. Make sure the ATF is full, and if so, have it scanned for codes. Maybe a sensor has gone bad in the trans.

NOTE:
Make sure the E-Brake is on if you get under the car. If there is a broken axle, Park will not hold the vehicle.
