2002 Ford Taurus LX with standard 3 liter V-6 engine, 99,000 mi.
Over the past year we had the check engine light turn on and stay on 3 times. The first two times we took it to a local mechanic who scanned for codes, and each time he asked us to make sure the gas cap was on tight. He told us the code indicated that the gasoline tank was improperly venting to the atmosphere, but the car still ran great. Then the third time the check engine light came on we were getting a rough idle. So, we took it to a Ford dealership and they replaced the fuel filter. Currently, we are getting an intermittent rough idle at stoplights. The same local mechanic suggested we replace the pcv valve hose, because they often go bad on this vehicle and cause a rough idle. We've replaced the pcv valve hose and valve and want to know what else we can do to solve this problem.
Also, this car was purchased with Ford's most complete 100,000 mi. Warranty and we were wondering if you can give us a checklist of things to have our local mechanic inspect before the car is out of warranty.
have the same problem?
