CUTTING OUT IN REVERSE

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus with 39000 miles. It is a 6 cylinder. The car runs fine in drive, but when I put it in reverse and step on the gas it jerks and cuts out like it isn't getting gas. I even pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor and nothing it goes about 10 mph in reverse and that is it. I sure hope that it isn't the transmission at 39000 miles. Any suggestions appreciated. I called Ford and of coarse since it is just out of warrenty they don't want to help. They say take it to a ford dealership for diagnosis, but the dealerships want $100 just to look at it. What a rip off!

Check the neutral saftey switch. Right on top of the tranny, it could be out of adjustment bad or water in the connector!
