Battery trouble?

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus with 120,000 miles. At random times, when I go to start it, it won't. No power at all (lights, windows, doors, ingition). If I pop the hood and jiggle the wires to the battery, everything will come back on. A few times the car has stopped while waiting at a long stop light or in traffic. Once again, I popped the hood, wiggled the wires, and everything came back on. I took it to a service station and they said the battery and wires were fine. They couldn't figure out what was wrong. I don't know what to do now. I am scared to drive it. The service engine light is on. Oh, and it seems to cut off less often when the air/heat is off.
