Engine Performance problem
2000 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 110000 miles
I was driving home and a yellow gear with an exclamation point light started to flash. I immediately pulled over and checked under my hood to see what the problem was. Everything looked fine, I could smell what smelt like burning rubber. I shut my car off and turned it back on and the light was gone. What is going on? Is this a serious problem? What should I do?
Hi: I believe that is to indicate the traction control slipped. Did you spin the wheels by any chance?

No I didn't spin my tires. I was just driving normally. I was on the freeway when it came on.

That is what the light is to indicate. If it's running ok now, let it go, but make sure to pay attention to it for awhile. If it happens again, have the computer scanned to see if there are any trouble codes in the system.
