Problem: The air conditioner blows only HOT air, no matter if it is set to Normal or MAX AIR and even with the temperature set to 60 deg F.

Pertinent Information:

1.) Air Conditioning system replaced 3 years ago.
2.) System gave no prior warning, it was working fine yesterday.
3.) With the air conditioner running, I checked the refrigerant lines in the engine compartment. The lines are very cold and sweating.
4.) System blows hot air not ambient temperature outside air as if the heater is on.

Sounds like the temp or mode door is not moving to the correct position in the heater duct work.

Buddy:

Thanks for the response. I searched through my Haynes manual for anything about the Temp and/or Mode Door, but this manual is not detailed enough to address this issue. Can you provide me with the repair procedure?

I assume you have the automatic climate control system where you just set a tempature that you want and the system tries to make that happen.

I try to avoid auto temp systems like the plague.

But i'll see if I can come up with something.

Well.
Step 1 is verify complaint.

Step 2, if problem is found connect scan tool.

i hate these systems.

Let's try to figure it out by symptom.
Does it blow out the correct vents?
Does the fan motor respond in different speeds?

Do you have the ability to switch to manual mode?

Does everything seem to work correctly except that it's just hot air coming out?

Hi Buddy, I will address several questions that you have about this problem below:

1.) The car does have Automatic Climate Control.

2.) There is no manual mode.

3.) Air does blow out of the selected vent.

4.) Motor speed runs at selected level.

I have run the system throughout the range of temperature (60 to 90 deg) and the same hot air (+100 deg) blows out for all settings. Also tried the MAX Air setting and the asne happens.

Buddy:

I wanted to thank you for the help. I read through the test procedure, there is more in there than I have the time to do (I'm a weekend warrior mechanic), and it's too hot here in Florida to go weeks without air.

As it turned out I brought the car to the mechanic, he diagnosed the problem is the RCC modual and a blend door. It took several hours to remove the dashboard. Apearently, the last time the dash was removed someone broke the radio antitheft clips (probably didn't use the ford removal tool). This makes removing the radio very difficult without tearing it up. I have not gotten the car back yet. I'll followup (if you like) if this did not fix the problem.
