Service Engine Light On?

I have my Service Engine Light on and cant pass GA Emissions to get my tags.I have spent about $700 already to replace the PCV valve, Oxygen Sensor,DPFE Sensor/Solenoid (Egr contrl),decarbed tube ports,replaced air filter.

We reset the computer and the light is off for a day or so, then comes back on.

How can I solve this problem? I feel like I have been given the run around by the shop I went to, plus Im out $700 and now I cant drive my car because I cant get tags for it.

Please Help!!!

The "service engine" light comes on because there is a fault in the system. You need to get the code or codes from it to begin diagnostics. This guide will help su do just that

I took it to Autozone and the code was the EGR valve. We replaced (cost me another $55) that and reset the system. The next day after driving a few miles the light came back on.

I dont know what to do next.

Anyone know of a good Ford mechanic in North Atlanta?

Check the function of the EGR valve by applying vacuum to the port while the engine is idling. The idle should slow down or stall. If not, your EGR passages are plugged, and you need to clean them out.

Where is the connector for a 1994 Taurus and will it accept the ODB II Reader?. 4.6L V-6

It's a two pigtail connector under the hood, usually on or near the fender, OBD II will not work...

I have recently replaced my OBDII with no oxygen sensor, with one having this option. the (service engine soon) signal is on, as a result. there are two unused wires coming from the OBDII multipinned connector, with their ends lose. I'm suspecting these could be used to feed the OBD so the service engine light would go off. Is it possible to use a 2 wire sensor to do the job? and would be safe to remove the hexagon nut on the exhaust manifold to screw in the sensor?

I'm probably going to regret answering this, but 96 Ford vehicles are OBD II and have O2 sensors before and after the converters...

Electrical problem
1996 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 130.00 miles

In New York we have inspections and a engine light cannot be on. I bought this car and someone had rigged a toggle switch to turn the fan off and on. I went to Advance Auto and they put it on the computer and it read-POll7. It was a Ect switch and we changed it twice to make sure we did not have a bad one. So after the switch was replaced the fan worked but the Check Engine Soon Light came on. So we did what the code said and we can't get rid of the light. The Voltage from Pcm was-4.66 V. Any light you could shine on this would help us since the car cannot pass inspection with that light on-Thank You-Dennis Vespi

DTC P0117 (ECT) or P0112 (IAT) indicates sensor signal is less than self-test minimum. Minimum signal for IAT and ECT sensor is .2 volt. Possible causes for these faults are:
Circuit grounded in wiring harness.
Faulty sensor.
Faulty connection.
Faulty PCM.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect suspect temperature sensor connector. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ECT V of IAT V PID from PID/DATA monitor menu. If PID value is less than 4.2 volts, go to next step. If PID value is 4.2 volts or more, replace sensor.

can codes be retrieved any other way than with diagnostic tool? like with a multimeter or service engine light may flash code some how?

I recently purchased a 1996 For Taurus GL 3.0L V6 and when sitting at an idle, whether in gear or in park, it runs really rough and seems to want to die. The check engine light just kicked on when I turned into the driveway. I replaced the plugs and air filter because it had been sitting for a while at the place I bought it from so I thought that would help but no luck. When I am at normal driving speeds it seems to run fine and doesn't seem to be missing at all. Would this possibly be a fuel filter or fuel pump issue? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If the check engine light is on, you need to find out the codes. That would probably help these pro guys narrow it down for you. Some auto parts stores will scan the codes for free.
