Engine Cooling problem
1995 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 70,000 miles

Dear Carpros,

Recently, when I drive my taurus, the water temperature gauge is fluctuating erradicly, when I step on the gas it goes up, and when I am coasting it goes right down. Is this the water pump or maybe the thermostat?

Thanks, matt

It is possible your thermostat or your water pump are not working right, but it actually sounds like your cooling system is a little clogged (when was the last time you serviced it?).
Have your cooling system flushed and cleaned and refilled with new coolant. Since your car seems to have overheated a little bit, I would also put a new thermostat just in case.

If this doesn't fix your problem, reply back and we'll look at other possibilities.
