The cover plate on the console/dash where the airbag key is located was pulled off. It was just the cover plate and not the airbag switch on the console but immediately afterward, the airbag light is blinking. Any ideas what might have happened and how to fix it?

HI there,

9 times out of 10 it will be the clock spring behind the steering wheel here is how you can change it out. To be sure this video will show how to get the codes.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Hi there,

this is a fault code, No 91. I don't have the codes to hand just now, but if you ring your dealer they will be able to tell you what the problem is. The SRS will be in-op until the fault is rectified.

My airbag light is either on constantly or sometimes has a slow blink on and off. The passenger on/off switch has no effect on the light. Is this something an amateur can fix? Is it safe to operate the vehicle?

You need to take the car to a dealer and ask them to retrieve the trouble code. It will be an OEM code you can't get with a regular scanner.

I have a Ford Ranger 2003 (3.0L). My problem started after I was pulling my boat (approx. 30min.)And parked the truck at dock. I'm having random problems with the electrical system. Examples:

1)the vents don't blow air (A/C clicks on, but no air flow).
2)Airbag light indicates the driver-side airbag is disabled.
3)reverse tail lights don't work, but the brake lights do.
4)no check engine light, and drives fine.

Question:
Did I overload the engine, overload the boats wiring harness, blow a circuit, Etc?

Get a test light and check all fuses. The boats wiring harness or connector may have shorted something out.

I have checked the two-prong fuses under the hood. They all look OK.

Also, the truck's Over-drive switch does not work. I turned off the over-drive while towing the boat.

Is there more than one fuse box?

Thanks for the help. The problem was the 10a fuse in the cab's fuse panel. Problem solved.

Most common issue is the clock spring

getting the system check or scanned for codes will pin point the troubled area

You want to have fun with a friend? Pull #13 in the panel by the door and have someone try to drive your truck. Locks the park lock.

Hello,
My air bag light is not coming on when I start my truck. Since the light not coming on, I get 5 sets of 5 beeps.

I took the dash apart, and replaced the air-bag light bulb, but this was not the problem.

Why would it fail to light up, all my fuses are in working order, in the truck and under the hood.

Please help, is it safe to drive?

If the light isn't coming on, chances are there is a sensor in the steering wheel or on the exterior that has failed. The only safety concern is that if you are in an accident, you won't have an airbag that works.

Take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Let me know what you find.

Joe

The computer detected an electrical problem and has disabled the system. The most likely cause is a broken clock spring under the steering wheel. If I'm right and it continues to break, eventually the horn and cruise control will stop working.
