1998 Ford Ranger Transmission Problem

Seems like my tranny does not want to go into reverse or drive when I first turn it on but once It's hot it goes into eiether shift. Tranny shifts great and at the right intervals but have this cold tranny shift problem. Any answers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Water is mixing in tranmission fluid. After the mechanic rebuilt the tranmission. He stated I needed a radiator the radiator is only 8months old. What could be causing this problem? :Evil:
