I have a 1998 ford ranger 4x4 with auto o/d. I put in a used transmission and it engages in P, R, N, 1, 2 not D. I know that the shif selector is slightly off but when I click the shift lever into the Drive spot the transmission doesn't engage. Park to reverse works, reverse to neutral works, neutral to drive doesn't work, drive to 2nd works and 2nd to 1st works. So park, neutral and drive are the selections where the transmission does not engage.
Any ideas on the problem?

Hi pprehatney, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

You need to inspect the gear linkage and see what's out align causing it to be slightly off. If okay -You might want to start by having the digital transmission range sensor checked and tested the PCM might not be getting the input signal on D position therefore not energizing the appropriate solenoid to engage in drive position-
