Catalytic Converters

This is a California car. I'm being told that it has two converters and that the 'fordward' one is bad causing a trouble code to set.

Does this make sense?

Yes your car is equipped with two converters one which is called a pre-cat which you should find coming off of the exhaust manifold and the other one is the main converter located closer to your muffler does this car have 2 oxygen sensors?

Thanks for the response.
Yes. One sensor is visible from the engine compartment - close to the exhaust heat shield & the other is underneath near the second cat.
