Electric driver seat goes up and down, forward "but not back". Can it be bypassed?

Good evening.

You can try but you may damage the internals of the switch assembly.

I attached a wire diagram of the seat circuit for you to view.

Hi. The car had been sitting for about a year. We took her out, got her repaired in top cindition and when I got in to drive it, the drivers seat will not move forward. Any idea's? I've WD'ed it to no avale. If you are unable to answer, can you at least point me in the direction of what type of mechanic would handle this?

I can't reach the clutch without pulling myself forward on the steering wheel so it's a little dangerous/awkward to drive.

Any help you give is greatly appreciated. Judy M.

On amanual seat the wire rod that goes from the release handle to the other side ususally comes off or breaks. Look at the bottom of the seat with a flashlight to see if there is anything laying under it disconnected. Any decent shop should be able to handle this repair, it basically is just pulling the seat out at worst if it is the rod

I just purchased a 1996 Mustang GT and the power seat on the drivers side is not working properly. I can adjust the height using the power seat controls but cannot adjust the seat forward and backwards. Is there a way to bypass the power seat adjuster and adjust the seat manually? I just need to move the seat forward a few inches and leave it that way. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I don't believe there is a way to manually adjust the seat, however diagnosis of the power seat, if you have accesss to a shop manual, can be done with a digital voltmeter. Problem is either a bad motor, control switch, or a wiring issue. There is a way to jump the terminals of the connector to take the switch out of the circuit, but I'm not definite on the pins to use on your car model.

Thanks so much for your reply. I just bought a Haynes Repair Manual but it did not include anything on the seats. I did not receive the original manual when I purchased the car so I will have to check and see if I can get one.

I can tell you that I can use the controls and the power seat motor will engage and run but will not move the seat back or forward.

So that makes me think that the wiring is ok and the control switch may be alright since it will engage the power seat motor. However the motor will not move the seat. The motor seems to work fine while raising and lowering the seat or while engaging the lumbar support.

I'm not sure if the seat is jammed and this prevents the motor from moving the seat forwarded or if the motor is just defective.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Check to make sure nothing is jammed in the seat track, owner manuals won't tell you anything about non-working seats.

I can not get my driver side electric seat to move back and forward. Would it be the electric motor, tracking or a fuse or relay and where are the fuse or relay located on 1995 ford mustang

I had the same problem on my 95. First check the fuse (Under the hood *Power distributer box*) then lube everything that moves under there. If its still doesn't work its a small plastic gear that is broken. Some genius decided to use really cheap plastic gear thats smaller then a penny to move a 130 lbs + person. Mine would just tweak left and right so the best thing to do is just go to a junk yard and replace the bottom.
