I replaced the cam in my Mustang and put everything back according to specs. I now have a problem when trying to connect the new battery. The car started with the old battery in it then it stopped. On the last effort with the old battery the car tried to turn over when I took the key out.

I then tried to connect the new battery putting the + terminal on first. I then tried to connect the negative wire and got a huge spark and noticed the terminal melted from the spark.

I connected the neg first and then positive and got another huge spark and car tried to turnover and post was melted from the spark.

Any ideas? The weather is starting to get better and need to break the cam in.
