2001 Ford Focus misfires at low RPM

Engine Performance problem
2001 Ford Focus 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 60000 miles

My 2001 Focus 16V 2 liter hesitates at initial acceleration, most of the time. A gentler acceleration minimizes the symptom. The car runs good at higher RPM and at highway speeds. I have replaced the spark plugs a few months ago, and more recently the plug wires, fuel filter and PCV. The problem seems to be getting worse. The engine light has never come on so I don't think any codes have been thrown. Friends have suggested changing (or cleaning) the injectors, changing the MAP sensor and checking the fuel pump pressure. I can replace a lot of parts for what it would cost me at a dealer, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Do you

Check the wires at the ignition module, they are stretched. And usually are cracked, the fix is to splice in some wire and lengthen the connector.
