Electrical problem
1991 Ford Falcon 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 250000 miles

i have just replaced the alternator in my 3.9lt ford and changed the belt. When at low rev or idle turning lights on can cause a squeaking constant noise from the alt. If I turn the lights off and increase the revs then turn the light back on the noise dose not start, it seems like unless I have a high rev when lights or high beam are switched on this noise starts, can the belt be too tight? Perhaps the regulator is stuffing up as the little box near the battery has been clicking previously when I first installed the alt.

Hi there,

I would say that the new belt has stretched a tad, this is normal so I would just re check the tension first, start here.
