Hello,

This sounds like you have a shaft speed sensor that is out. Does the speedometer work? If not here is the location of the vehicle speed sensor. If so we should run the codes

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

Service Engine light is on - reporting 2 sensors running lean. Been on for awhile

Overdrive light came on and starting flashing couple days ago.

Today the transimission started slipping and you can hear a grinding noise when going into I think 4th? If I turn on overdrive it doesn't slip.

The PCM module was replaced a couples years ago.

The transmission was rebuilt about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago.

Ant ideas if the transmissions may be at fault or maybe the PCM or exhaust may be causing the slipping?

If you hear a grind when it shifts, you do have a tranny problem, the lean condition can be any type of vacuum leak that allows unmetered air into the intake maniflod, or a weak fuel pump.

There is a malfunction in the trans.

Check the fluid first. Beyond that, you will need a shop to see. If you lost all gears, then you may have lost a torque converter.
A shop will confirm.

If the light is on, you need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes. The trouble code will direct you to where the problem is coming from.

Sounds like it is not kicking into overdrive, hence the straining, and the light, I would take to the dealership or a close reputable transmission shop, to diagnose your problem, could be something as easy as a sensor.

When the lights are on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes. Most part stores will do it for free.

We just purchased a 2001 Ford 150 Crew Cab from a dealership. It has 35,000 actual miles. We noticed a a raspy noise that sounded like rotors rubbing on front tires and pedal seems to vibrate when giving gas at lower speeds but after you get over 30 seems to stop. But you can hear a noise off and on while cruising below 30 at times. They explained that it was a noisy motor that checks the brakes and there was nothing wrong with truck. The only way to get rid of noise is replace motor which would cost us $500. Now tonight on the way home from town about 4 miles out of town with truck set on cruise the overdrive light on shifter came on saying off. And it kept flashing off. I kept pushing button to turn overdrive on and it wouldn't work so I pulled over turned truck off and restarted took off again and after setting cruise 2 miles down the road overdrive went off again and light started flashing. Any ideas what this could be. Dealership told me no warrenty except 30 days 50/50 pay on transmission & engine. Thanks for replies. Tammy

If the overdrive off light is blinking, then the computer has an error code stored for transmission malfunction. You need to get to the dealership or tranny shop for someone to pull the code for you. Hopefully the code will let you know specifically what the problem is

good look.

Is the OD working? If not, have the TCM scanned to identify where the problem is coming from. If the OD is working, chances are the light in the switch is bad. If I recall, the bulb isn't replaceable. The switch would need replaced.

That is your transmissions way of telling you something is wrong, like a check engine light. Some local part houses and/or repair shop should be able to read the codes.

It means there is an electrical problem withing the transmission -- failed solenoid, TCM error or wiring issues. Have it evaluated immediately, as driving it in this condition may cause serious damage.
