Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Ford F150 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 143000 miles

I can get the engine started after many attempts but whenever I press on the accelerator the engine
stops immediately. The repair shop installed a new
fuel pump but that didn't help. No 'service engine'
light is on. There doesn't seem to bo be any
applicable codes in the computer. My mechanic thinks the computer is the proble now.

Believe it or not, the most common cause of what you describe coming accross the posts is spark plugs. Next in line is the crankshaft position sensor (CPS), then throttle position sensor (TPS), in that order. Lastly, the mass air unit, but this is rare.
