Back light not working for turn and signal light. I Replaced bulbs, relay, and switched out the back bulb component. The front light flash quickly. But no response in the back light. The bulb turns on when I turn on the parking lights.

The quick flash is an indicator that the rear isn't working. If you take a test light to the brake / signal socket, do you get power? If not, you need to follow the power wire until you find a break in it. Keep in mind, if you follow the wiring from the tail lights, I believe there is a plug-in to another wiring harness that could be corroded, loose, or damaged.

Here is a wiring diagram to help you see how the system works with a guide to help you test

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

I have replaced my rear brake light bulb, but it still will not work when the brake pedal is pressed. The blinker and reverse light does work though.

Hi there,

If it is just one that is not working, you will have to start checking the power wire down the loom, often it is a faulty globe holder, check the earth as well and if both are not working, check the switch at the top of the brake pedal.

1997 F-150 4.6L auto transmission won't shift out of park and brake lights are out. Fuses checked out ok. Using a wiring diagram to try and locate and inspect brake pressure switch and brake on/off switch but having problems finding. Don't have equipment to test ohms or resistance, just planning on replacing both switches to see if problem goes away. Can someone help with this? Could this be something else?

Both of my brake lights stopped working suddenly. My high rear brake light also does not come on. The parking brake light does not come on when the brake is activated. I've checked the fuses and they are all good.

Since the high rise light isnt turning on also I woudl suspect a faulty brake on off switch or one that is improperly adjusted.

If it was wiring or a bad turn signal swtich the thrid one shoudl work and not the other ones, and vice versa.

Jason,

If you are sure the bulbs are good and you checked and there is no power to the sockets, check the brake light switch on the top of the brake pedal. It may be out of adjustment or bad. Let me know if you have specific questions.

We replaced the rear brake lines as we had no brakes, bled them, now the lights only come on with hard pressure to the peddle. What do you think the problem is now?

SoI understand, is it the brake lights on the exterior of the truck or the brake light inside (warning light) that only comes on when you press hard on the brakes?

Let me know so I can better help/

Hi, all the other lights work. The key is not in. The truck does run. I have unplugged the two plugs at the rear bumper to the rear lights, the mufti-function switch on the steering wheel, the 21 pin plug going through the firewall and the headlight switch. There are two plugs at the bottom of the steering wheel. The one plug that turned off the lights in the cab, I left plugged in. I was told it's a bad ground. I have cleaned the two ground at the kick panels. It blows fuse number 13 when I press the brake. What are some things I can check next?
Thanks, Mike

Check for a short in the wiring going to the brake switch then to lights. Probably along frame or where it goes under truck. Check ground at center rear cross member and probably rear of truck. Also org/lt blu and lt grn/org wires for lights. That is more than likely your problem.

I checked there are no grounds wires under the truck. Does it help to unplug all the plugs? I plugged everything back in and I found the one that causes the fuse to blow.

Thanks, the plug has four wires, and is located in the center of the dash. Do I trace the side that doesn't have power because it blows the fuse only when it's plugged in? With (everything) unplugged except for this plug and the plug at the bottom of the steering column ( which controls the ceiling lite) it blows the fuse.

Ya test it where you found it get a circuit breaker from auto parts so power will go off and on if you have a small compass run it along the harness to find the problem area. I think it's your wires for lights in back.
