Engine Performance problem
1994 Ford F150 V8 Automatic

1994 Ford F-150 V8 5.0. When I turn the key I only hear one click and nothing else (including a starting truck : ( ). It has been sitting through the winter because I haven't had the money or the time to fix it.

I know that the alternator is bad. There is a small chunk missing out of the top and my battery was not charging properly before it quit starting. So, I'm very sure I need a new alternator.

When it first quit starting I checked and replaced the battery and the cables are not coroded or loose.

Now I have a couple of questions, really:

can a bad alternator keep a car from starting at all?

what else could be the cause of it not starting? How can I check for them?

If the alternator is defective the truck will run only with battery power till its exhausted and wound up being dead due to not being reconditioned by the alternator. This will cause a No Crank and No start
