Engine Mechanical problem
1984 Ford F150 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 100K+ miles
I've just recently purchased a 1984 Ford F-150 with 4.9L 300 6 cyl. I changed out the starter and decided to change out the starter solenoid relay as suggested. When I first installed the relay it started fine. Then it wouldn't start all. No lights nothing. When I tried to jump it, the engine would crank by itself. And the jumper cables got really hot. Then I switched out the connections on either side of the relay, still no lights, so switched out the ignition wire. Then it started right up. Now when I try to start it, you can hear the relay thumping, if that's the best word for it. This is after reinstalling the original relay. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Take care.
have the same problem?
