Ford Escort problem locking doors

Got a bit of a problem, when I try to lock my door all the door switches open and close at the same time for a few moments, when it eventualy stops I can open the door if I lift the handle a couple of times, any ideas what the problem is

Do you have remote enrty on the car? If so something has gone wrong in that area.
